1923 Ford TT Campervan

Monday 2nd March 2015 - All the necessary documents, together with proof of insurance were presented at Gatton courthouse to get the 1923 Ford TT registered.

Well, what a drama that turned out to be. The system would not accept the description of the body style.  At last, and following on from a few phone calls to Brisbane, someone with common-sense found a “workaround” suggesting they register it as a campervan.  Such a description was OK with us as we had not envisaged ever installing kitchen when we already had the semblance of one stowed in a side locker.

Since restoration the “campervan” has attended rallies as far south as Inverell and north as far as Maryborough. She has also attended rallies in Dalby, Kingaroy, Esk and Gatton to name a few.

Once we got it positioned "In the Shed", there was no stopping me getting it apart, and it brought back many memories of when I commenced restoration of my 1924 Dodge (factory built) Ute, those many years ago . . . . Now, the restoration begins . . . .

As we go through the restoration process, there are so many areas that require that extra special attention to detail to ensure that it lasts for another 100 years, and I think this is why restorations take so long, (sure, money has a lot to do with it also)…..!!!

Throughout the restoration, it’s my way of thinking that if a part can be restored now, (but not needed for some time) restore it, and hand hang it up so as its ready when you are.  This way it’s a great way to use your time especially when waiting on other parts to return that you may have sent out for specialised work.

The later pictures are where I am at as of today, some 7 to 8 months down the track from when I first brought the TT “In The Shed”…!!!  After the front axle & steering linkages are mounted, the next step will be the rear end starting with the diff & axles, etc.  I do have other parts out there being worked on, along with other parts ordered.  I must say, restoring is a fantastic way of “getting away from all the pressures of life”, and simply being down “In The Shed” tinkering with history, and it bringing it back to life…..!!!

The process of disassembling all the parts (a lot of home made parts too I might add) from the 1926 Ford TT commenced back in January 2015, with my vision of recreating the “Ford Special Ton Truck – with improved type cowl”, that was purpose built upon customer’s requests, that Ford produced from their newly built Ford Factory in Geelong, back in 1925.

We purchased the 1926 TT Truck from an old fellow out at St George back in 2012, and from what I gather, it has quite a story to its life…., more on that some other day...!!! - A big thanks to my old mate Ralph and his son Trent, for making me aware of its existence, and doing the deal for me over the phone, and bringing him home…!!!
